Trained at the Conservatoire de Bordeaux and Bordeaux University, Julien Marchal composes from a studio built in his garden in Bordeaux, France. His solo piano works blend neoclassical composition with ambient textures and cinematic soundscapes.

Julien is the creator of Whales Records and has released a series of acclaimed solo albums including INSIGHT I (2015), INSIGHT II (2016), INSIGHT III, INSIGHT IV (2019), and INSIGHT V on naïve Records. His collaborative work includes Observations with DimMak (2018) and Imp. on Whales Records (2020).

His music has been synced in major TV productions including How to Get Away with Murder (ABC), Ray Donovan (Showtime), The Blacklist (NBC), and True Detective (HBO). Other collaborations include Robot Koch (IDM/ambient) and Recue (future bass), earning a RIAA Gold Single.
